The eggs in this basket can be removed for a fun little playset

Step 1: Create a Basket

This was done by creating a rectangle and then doing a vector edit in XCS2.0.  Create a rectangle and click on Edit.  Move the lower two corners towards the center to make the bottom skinnier.  Then you can add a point on each side.  Change these new points to the node type “Perfect symmetry” and stretch out the tails to get the curve that you like.  You now have a basket base.

Step 2: Add a Handle

Add a circle that is the same width as the basket.  Tip: if you hold down shift while creating the circle it will make a perfect circle.  Outline the basket with a negative value to do an inner outline.  I went with -4.  Select both circles and subtract and you now have just the outer handle.  I then added a rectangle where the basket would be, selected the circle and the rectangle (NOT the basket) and used subtract to remove the extra part of the circle.

Step 3: Add the Inner Basket

What we have created so far will be the outside of the basket.  Copy both parts so you have two of each.  On the second basket bottom do an outline and choose a negative value, I went with -4 to create the inner part.  Select those two pieces and align horizontal and align top and then subtract.

This will give you a fairly deep basket.  If you don't want it that deep you can use the Vector Pen to draw an inner portion and use combine to make a shallower basket.

Move the handle down just a hair so that it overlaps the basket a tiny bit, select both parts, and choose combine.  Do the same for the outer basket.  You'll now have something like the green basket picture.

Step 4: Add Flowers, Eggs, and Letters

I copied the flowers from my Flower Earring project linked in the remix.  These can also be created in the vector tool with just 4 points and there are instructions in that project how to do it.  The eggs are from the xTool inspiration file.  I added the word SPRING in the Atma bold font.

Cut out the flowers, eggs, and letters from your desired acrylics using the default 3mm acrylic settings.  I chose pastels.  You could also use baby chicks instead of eggs here for a cute variation.

I cut out two of each part for the basket (4 wood pieces total).  Go ahead and glue those 4 together with the deeper parts on the inside.  Your flowers and SPRING can be glued to the front.  I like to place the letters where I want them, put a piece of scotch tape over the letters to hold them together, and then flip it over to add glue while keeping them lined up.

Step 5: Play Time!

This sweet little basket is now ready for play time.  Your kids can have tons of fun playing with and rearranging the eggs.  You can even hide them for the kids to go collecting!
